Currently On Display: Archetype Series
12” x 18” AR Shadow Boxes
This series explores the Jungian archetypes of the divine masculine and feminine as well as their bipolar shadows (the over-realization and under-realization of the archetype). By incorporating symbolic elements from world history and mythology, the Archetype series reflects on how we interpret idealized social behavior and - in turn - how we arbitrarily gender that behavior.
Comprising of nine distinct pieces, each embodying a unique archetype—The Warrior, The Magician, The Lover, The King, The Caregiver, The Maiden, The Sorceress, The Empress, and ultimately The Confused Child—this series culminates in a poignant reflection of the queer experience. The final artwork sheds light on the challenges of navigating archetypal narratives that often diverge from one's gender identity.
Together, this collection serves as an invitation for viewers to contemplate the malleability of social constructs, challenging fixed gender roles while encouraging introspection into the broader implications of societal norms' perceptions and prescriptions.
Currently On Display: Kosha
42” x 42” AR Shadow Box
Each of us is a refraction of the divine spark, a singular point within a matrix of interconnected consciousness. As that point moves through time, it is instinctively drawn towards the experience of union with that consciousness. Oneness. Love. Bliss.
However, the spaceship of our minds often becomes misatuned. To better navigate our world we categorize it, give it language, call parts good and other parts evil, and form egos as we reflect that process upon ourselves. As we become increasingly tangled in the illusory grid of our minds reality, our behavior veers further out of alignment with the realization of our true nature. The purpose of yoga (and of many other wisdom traditions) is to return to the realization of oneness.
This piece was designed to be a sigil-like reminder of these processes. It was losely inspired by a yogic tool for the return to oneness, the model of the Koshas (layers of self). As we peel back our consciousness through the layers of our subtle body, we gain a greater awareness of our mind's habits and their impact on our physiology. In my experience, exercising this awareness is a critical stage of healing.
